HANDS
Health Access Nurturing Development Services
What is HANDS?
Becoming a parent is exciting. But at times, it can be overwhelming. The HANDS program is here to help. HANDS is a voluntary home visitation program for moms, dads, and families in Kentucky at no cost. HANDS supports families by promoting healthy pregnancies and births, child growth and development, and safe environments for children. HANDS provides resources, information, home visitations, and is available to answer questions.
Who Can Participate in HANDS?
HANDS is available to new or expecting parents in Kentucky. Families must be enrolled prenatally or before a child is 90 days old. Once enrolled, services are available up to the child’s third birthday.
How HANDS Helps
Every family is unique, so the HANDS program is tailored to fit the needs of each child. Once enrolled, we will help you:
Have a healthy pregnancy and prepare for your baby’s birth
Learn to care for your child with confidence
Build a strong bond and nurture your relationship with your baby
Create a safe, nurturing home environment
Provide enriching learning experiences that support development
Understand your child’s growth
Learn to deal with parenting stress and everyday challenges
Research shows that children thrive when parents feel supported and informed. Compared to non-participating families, HANDS has helped families experience fewer premature births, low birth weight babies, and developmental delays.
